Concourse Awards and Reunion Gala

A Huge Success

About 100 pigeon flyers, families and guests attended the first North Texas Concourse Awards Gala and Reunion Dinner.

“This was an amazing day,” Concourse President Warren Glover said. “Everybody had a great time.”

The event was held at the Texas lofts and property of Rick Mardis in Denton, Tx.

Committee members were Glover, Mardis, Race Secretary Danny Murphy, Rick Smith, Kenny Kelley and Darrell Starnes.

“For one reason or another the concourse hadn’t sponsored an awards ceremony in quite some time,” Glover said. “So this event was scheduled to recognize all our winning flyers from last year and several years past.”

Dallas Ladies Auxiliary President, Patty Montagno and Denton Ladies Auxiliary President, Rosalee Renfroe handled the food committee.

Food event organizer was Marilyn Glover.

“The committee immediately decided to make it a free event,” Murphy said. “The concourse would be responsible for buying and cooking all the meat and we asked the ladies to help out with the side dishes.”

Attendees feasted on a lavish dinner of steak and chicken, baked potatoes and every kind of salad, vegetable and dessert imaginable. There were hot dogs for the kids that were a real crowd pleaser.

“What made this day so great was seeing so many people who are no longer involved in the sport,” Glover said. “We were also pleased to see so many children and grand children. Pigeon flying is truly a family sport and some of those children are the future of our sport.”

Before the awards were given out attendees were treated to a raffle and a bird auction. A donation from the proceeds of the auction and raffle will be made to the Texas Center Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.

Nelson, Rick Smith, Randy Biel, Butch Shoop, Fly n Circle Loft, Double M Loft, Don Taylor, EMC Loft, CL Gage, D. Johnson, Scott Lindsay, L. Cargiulo, D. Starnes and GE Renfroe.

Due to the huge success of the day – committee members are already discussing the logistics for a 2008 Awards Gala. The committee and officers hope to make it an annual event.
